FACT Magazine -  http://www.factmag.com

  • The masthead is on the top left hand side, situated in the same place as it would be on a magazine cover due to the way they are presented in store. The font is in block capitals and looks simple. It could be targeted at people who like simplicity and no fuss.
  • Colour scheme: black, red and white are the main colours used. Red is the colour of the masthead which makes it stand out against the rest. Other important links are also in red such as 'latest news'. They are quite masculine colours, therefore attracting male readers. It also follows the three colour rule which gives it variety without it looking random and mismatched.
  • Fonts: Serif font is used on the webpage and this style is usually seen in newspapers. The magazine is also called 'Fact' and these two ideas link together as newspapers write about facts. This suggests the magazine is genuine and they only feature news which is true and artists who are real. There is also bold writing to highlight article titles and headings. This makes it easy to navigate through the sections. The text sizes vary depending on how important the subject is.
  • Layout: The website is organised well under different titles and looks like an ordinary website. The content doesn't take up the whole page as there are empty spaces on either side and this is purposely done so the reader doesn't feel intimidated or get bored.
  • Images: Pictures are a key feature on this website and they bring the page to life. Seeing the artists makes it more appealing, which is why 'fact' have thumbnails next to each article. There is also a gallery and images of album covers to view.
  • Pages: The navigation tabs at the top of the page take you to various different areas. Some of the pages 'Fact' have included are reviews, events, features and new music. This makes it relatively easy to find what you want rather than the homepage overflowing with random articles which don't relate to each other.
  • Banners: Apart from the adverts on the page that promote new music there are no additional advertisements. This could be because 'fact' believe in 100% related content and don't want any other content distracting their readers...
  • Additional features:'Fact' have their own newsletter to give their interested readers something more. There is a social media section where their Facebook, Twitter, Sound cloud and other networks are listed. There is a search bar at the top for more detailed and specific searches which is always a positive because users don't have to sift through everything. There are also videos to view which are popular because the viewer can be informed by listening to someone else at the click of a button and this requires no effort. They have a 'tip us' box which allows users to give feedback on their website experience.

Extension:

The institution could make their money by featuring new artists and reviewing albums and events.
The audience for 'Fact' is mostly men but also some women due to the simple design and dark colours used.
You interact with the site through reading articles, watching videos, following 'Fact' on social media forms and find out about music related news.
The audience theory which applies here would be Blumler and Katz's Uses and Gratifications theory. Surveillance and observing happens when people want to read about others and find out what they are doing. Entertainment is provided  and people can talk about what they read with their friends. All of these aspects make 'Fact' successful because the people who use their site will feel they can take something away from it.
